Enjoy the start of spring at Via Sol

This week, we’re talking about opportunities for outdoor fun at Via Sol! As the sun fills more hours in the day and the songs of birds return, Via Sol offers many ways to enjoy the start of spring from the Urban Forest outside to shared balconies sprinkled throughout each floor of the building.

See it for yourself during our tour for potential residents Thursday, March 24, 4:00-6:00 pm.

Happy learning and happy living!

Sincerely,

The PLACE Team:

The beginning of spring

We are crawling out of the negative temperatures, preparing to grow with the St. Louis Park Tree Sale and Native Plant Sale, “springing forward” our clocks this Sunday, and celebrating the Vernal Equinox the following Sunday, March 20. It is a season of new beginnings for the world around us as little yellow winter aconite blossoms pop up out of the snow, robins return north and call for their partners, maple trees release their sugary energy stores, and more Minnesotans are drawn outside toward that increasingly warm sunlight.

As more of us venture outside, we often seek areas to watch the marvelous changes in our environment in parks, along rivers and lakes, and studying the trees on our street. We know being outside, especially in a more natural environment, is good for the wellbeing of ourselves and of our communities. Parks and other opportunities to gather outdoors in neighborhoods often bring greater safety, connection, and contentment to those living there.

Enjoy being outside at Via Sol

Via Sol offers many opportunities for residents and neighbors to take advantage of the warming weather and longer days. Everyone is welcome to Via Sol’s Urban Forest where they can stroll along the trails and watch as the trees and flowers wake up after the dark, cold winter. Interwoven into the Urban Forest are spaces for art installations, which will host work by three local artists when Via Sol opens this summer, with room to welcome more artists in the future.

Via Sol’s residents can ease into the spring by gathering around the toasty fire ring while the days are still chilly. Eager to begin grilling? The grills are close to the community room, allowing residents to brave the chill while cooking, then eat inside. As the weather becomes warmer, kids living at Via Sol can climb around the playground or run around the lawn adjacent to the Urban Forest. Within the building itself, residents will find an open terrace next to the biosolar roof (greenroof + solar PV) where they can prepare food in the connected kitchen. Seeking a quieter moment outside in the sun? Via Sol has small shared balconies located throughout each floor above ground level.

Opportunities to savor the warming sun continue in the surrounding neighborhood of St. Louis Park with the Cedar Lake Trail only feet away from Via So for biking and walking, Jorvig Park with the 1887 Milwaukee Road Depot a few blocks away, and the Rec. Center alongside Wolfe Park right down the street.
