Leave pantry foods at your mailbox on Saturday!

This week, we’re talking about the National Association of Letter Carrier’s 30th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive coming up this Saturday, May 14!

Help your community by leaving nonperishable food items at your mailbox for your letter carrier to pick up this Saturday.

Unable to leave food at your mailbox? You can also donate here to your local food bank.

Happy learning and happy living!

Help Stamp Out Hunger This Saturday!

After being on hiatus for COVID in 2020 and 2021, collecting monetary donations only, letter carriers around the country are preparing to once again gather millions of pounds of pantry food donations for their communities.

The NALC Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the country and takes place on the 2nd Saturday of May every year. Since the first NALC food drive in 1993, letter carriers around the United States have collected 1.75 billion pounds of food for their local communities. The NALC picked this date after talking to food pantries around the nation who say this is when they begin running out of food after the big Thanksgiving and Christmas donations.

“From Alaska to Florida and Maine to Hawaii, letter carriers did double duty—delivering mail and picking up donations.” - from the Food Drive history

Fresh Greens All Year at Via Sol

PLACE is working with fellow nonprofit Spark-Y to grow local, fresh greens and herbs right in St. Louis Park throughout the year, including the coldest months of winter when many of us can only find fresh produce that traveled from outside of the metro area. Nestled in Via Sol’s 5,000 square feet of commercial space will be the ultra water efficient ZipGrow hydroponic farming, allowing the Twin Cities community to eat fresh food with less road mileage under its leaves.

Via Sol

PLACE’s Via Sol community, a sustainable, transit-oriented community in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, producing its own food and energy, filled with art and imagination, offering healthy apartments and live/work space to households across the income spectrum.

Via Sol is currently under construction and expected to open in summer of 2022. Applications are now being accepted. For more information:
