See the November construction work for Via Sol!

This week, let’s take a look at what has been happening on the construction site.

Via Sol’s teams are working throughout the building installing solid wood cabinets, granite countertops, siding, balconies, and more!

The PLACE Team,

Chris Velasco Elizabeth Bowling Alice Hiniker Todd Bagby

Inside Via Sol

Our team continues installing beautiful, nontoxic, durable cabinets in Via Sol’s apartments and are now on the third floor, working their way down the building.

Solid granite countertops and windowsills follow closely behind those cabinets and are already being installed on the fourth and fifth floors.

Closets in Via Sol’s apartments are beginning to fill up with shelving for resident linens, clothing, and other items.

Water pipes are being wrapped with insulation to make sure water stays hot as it travels to our residents, reducing energy and water use, which also means lower utility bills for residents.

Outside Via Sol

Much of Via Sol’s sidewalks north of the building are now poured, which will soon connect people to Wooddale. PLACE hopes to make the Highway 7 Service Road more walkable, so Via Sol’s residents, employees, and neighbors can safely travel to and from the surrounding area and future Wooddale LRT station. Additional sidewalks to be installed in the spring will connect Via Sol and its Urban Art Forest to the Cedar Lake Trail, welcoming cyclists and walkers from around the neighborhood.

Balconies are being installed for shared spaces open to all residents and for many individual apartments. Via Sol’s Nichiha, brick, and stucco siding work continues. The stucco will provide spaces for artwork by artists from around St. Louis Park and beyond.

The artist selection process for Via Sol’s large south-facing stucco wall and Urban Art Forest pedestals is wrapping up with Jamie Marshall at the helm, former St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts Executive Director. Stay tuned for updates!

Via Sol

PLACE’s Via Sol community, a sustainable, transit-oriented community in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, producing its own food and energy, filled with art and imagination, offers healthy apartments and live/work space to households across the income spectrum.

Via Sol is currently under construction and expected to open in spring of 2022. Applications are now being accepted. For more information:
